Ferrari Driver Academy racer Maya Weug will make her return to the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine for the fourth round of the 2025 season at the renovated Hungaroring, joining Saintéloc Racing for a one-off appearance.
Weug, 21, last competed in FRECA in 2024 for a single round at Imola and contested a full campaign in the highly competitive series in 2023 with KIC Motorsport. She now steps in for Saintéloc Racing in the #50 entry, taking over from Tim Gerhards, who is sidelined due to injury.
The Dutch/Belgian/Spanish driver is currently contesting her second season in the F1 Academy, having switched to MP Motorsport for the 2025 season while continuing to enjoy the support of the Ferrari Driver Academy. A consistent front-runner in the all-female championship, Weug kicked off her sophomore campaign with four consecutive podiums and a win in Jeddah, holding the championship lead for much of the first half of the season.
However, a challenging weekend in Montreal, plagued by technical issues, saw her slip behind Pin in the standings with three rounds remaining.
Weug joined the Ferrari young driver programme after winning the inaugural Girls on Track – Rising Stars initiative in 2020, following an international karting career that brought her into the spotlight. She moved to Italian F4 for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, scoring nine points finishes, before stepping up to FRECA in 2023.
In her rookie FRECA campaign, Weug had a strong second half of the season, earning points at Spa-Francorchamps, Mugello, Le Castellet, and Monza, including a rookie win that helped her secure third in the rookie standings.
In 2024, she transitioned to F1 Academy, where she represented Ferrari in the series held in support of Formula 1 weekends. Weug claimed podiums in Jeddah, Zandvoort, Singapore, and Qatar before sealing her first F1 Academy victory at the Abu Dhabi finale. She ended her rookie season third in the championship with 177 points, behind Abbi Pulling and Doriane Pin.
Now returning to FRECA at Hungaroring with Saintéloc Racing, Maya Weug adds another valuable opportunity to gain mileage and experience in a highly competitive single-seater championship.
