The positive trend in the most competitive F4 championships continues: one more female driver will make her single-seater debut this year: Emely de heus will step up from karting competitions, as she joins title-winning team MP Motorsport in the Spanish-based series.

The 17-year old from the Netherlands thus becomes the second female entry, after Drivex announced French karting sensation Lola Lovinfosse.

De Heus had the opportunity to test the Tatuus F4 car at Barcelona in February and later decided to take on the challenge with the Dutch team – which has so far announced a massive nine-car line up in the championship.

“It’s great to see my single-seater career taking off now,” said the young lady.

“And it is utterly brilliant that it does so in collaboration with MP Motorsport, with its headquarters based around the corner from where I live."

"I have known MP since I have been racing on the local kart track at Strijen – and now I am part of the team myself! On top of that, they are the strongest team in Spanish F4, which will only increase my chances of a good debut season in motorsport. I can’t wait to get started.”

MP Motorsport claimed both the teams and drivers' title in 2020, with Kas Haverkort clinching 13 victories out of the 21 scheduled races.

De Heus comes from a motorsport family, as her father Bert previously raced in GT3 machinery. She made a name for herself in karting, especially in the Dutch Rotax Max classes where she took victories and podiums in the last three seasons. She also competed in the Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy in 2020.

“We are extremely happy that Emely will be doing Formula 4 with us next year,” added Sander Dorsman, team manager at MP Motorsport.

“We have seen her grow up over the past years – at the kart track of course, but also when she visited the workshop along with her father Bert."

"She’s going to do great, I’m sure of that.”

The Spanish F4 Female Trophy will thus return after featuring one single female entry in 2020 – Swiss racer Lena Buhler who has since graduated to Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.

In 2019, Belen Garcia, Nerea Marti and Irina Sidorkova competed in the Iberian series, which proved to be a great stepping stone to all of them: they will in fact be reunited in 2021 on the grid of the all-female F3 championship W Series.

So far, the championship has attracted an impressive 27 entries, becoming one of the most competitive F4 championships worldwide.

The first race weekend is set to get underway at Spa Francorchamps, Belgium, on 24/25 April. The following rounds will be contested at Navarra, Portimao, Aragon, Valencia, Jerez, before the season finale at Barcelona Montmelo in November.
