American racer Hanna Zellers announced she will join Ave Motorsports for the upcoming IMSA Prototype Challenge, in a full-time campaign starting with the three-hour race at Daytona, supporting the Rolex 24. North Carolina-based Ave Motorsports - a prominent name in Trans Am competitions - joined forces with GRS Autosport and will run two Ligier JSP320 LMP3 cars, with drivers line-up still to be confirmed. Among them will be George Staikos, Tony Ave and Hanna Zellers. The program is backed by GMS Excavating, Staikos Homes and Swiss watchmaker Corum among others. The team has a wide experience in prototype racing and co-designed the AR2 car, homologated under the previous LMP3 regulations, in cooperation with Riley Technologies. “I am beyond excited to make my return to the IMSA Prototype Challenge", commented 24-year old Zellers. "I feel like I have so much more to accomplish, and I’m ready for the challenge.” "I was out testing the Ligier JSP320 at Daytona earlier this month and the car felt great", she added on a social media post. Zellers - a driver with experience in single-seaters, touring cars, GT cars and prototypes, had in fact previously entered the 2018 IMSA Prototype Challenge season, before making appearances in TC America in 2019 and in World Racing League across 2020 and 2021. A karting champion in 2009 in the Rotax Mini Max class, Hanna will also take part in the next Dubai 24 Hours, having recently announced her entry with Yeeti Automotive in a BMW M2 CS Racing in the TCX class. The team is expected to run also other Creventic's 24H Series events. The 2022 IMSA Prototype Challenge season will feature a five-event calendar, starting in three weeks' time at Daytona International Speedway for the Scouts of America 145. In May, the season will resume at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, before the two events in July and August at Mosport (Canada) and VIRginia International Raceway. The season finale will be contested at Road Atlanta in conjunction with the Motul Petit Le Mans, from September 28th to October 1st.
