French racer Caroline Candas is set to continue her racing journey in the United States with RAFA Racing Team, and announced she will make her debut in the highly competitive Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup.

Candas, who became Vice-Champion in the 2024 Porsche Sprint Challenge North America Cayman class, will contest the first two races at Daytona International Speedway, in her first race weekend at the iconic venue in Florida.

Caroline will therefore make her first start on the IMSA support package, in a series that traditionally is synonymous with close racing and a big field, with several female drivers on the grid.

The French racer in fact also joins Uruguayan Maite Caceres - who was recently announced as part of the RAFA Racing Team - as well as Mazda female scholarship winner Ashlyn Speed and Heather Hadley.

Candas contested the 2023 FFSA TC championship, where she finished third in the standings despite being unable to compete in every race due to a lack of funding. Her ability to maximise her performances however saw Caroline claim a stunning victory at Val de Vienne on her way to a podium tally which reached double figures.

The perfect opportunity was presented to her when she was invited to take part in the inaugural RAFA Racing Shootout, which saw the young Frenchwoman up against some of the most promising female talents in the world; with no previous experience of rear-wheel-drive machinery and in her first ever experience in the US, Caroline highly impressed the judges and emerged as the winner of the selection, securing a funded seat in Porsche Sprint Challenge NA.

Caroline adapted exceptionally well to the Cayman GT4 machine and was immediately quick enough to challenge for podiums and race victories.

The Le Mans-native was twice on the podium in Sebring, then claimed a third-place finish at Barber Motorsports Park and two at VIR, two second-places at COTA - before a breakthrough victory at Watkins Glen.

While Road America proved to be challenging for a heavy accident not of her own making at the start, she fought back at the season finale in Sonoma, where she was runner up in race 1, before clinching the final win of the season in race 2.

In doing so, she became the 2024 Cayman class Vice-Champion as well as the Junior and Female Champion.

Entering her second season with RAFA Racing Team, Caroline Candas is aiming to keep momentum and further climb the sports car ladder in the US.

Congratulations to Caroline Candas on the next step in her Mazda MX-5 Cup racing career! It's a remarkable achievement to be named Vice Champion in the Block Blast Sprint Challenge. It's great to see more female drivers emerging and shining in the big leagues.
