Safety rightfully took priority amid worsening weather conditions as heavy rain forced the postponement of the second F1 Academy race in Miami, with pole-sitter Chloe Chambers still earning the two bonus points for pole position.

The second F1 Academy race of the Miami GP weekend was postponed following heavy rain at 13:05 local time, when the starting procedure was disrupted by intense showers that rendered the track completely undriveable.

Rain began to fall just as the cars were lining up on the grid, initially creating tricky conditions—similar to qualifying, where a sudden downpour allowed drivers just one flying lap. However, the rain quickly intensified.

Chloe Chambers had secured her second pole position of the season, ahead of her Campos Racing teammate Alisha Palmowski and Doriane Pin. The American driver has been a consistent front-runner this year but is still chasing her first win in 2025.

A series of formation laps got underway in very wet conditions, with heavy spray reducing visibility. Emma Felbermayr, Ella Lloyd, and Nicole Havrda went off track in the treacherous conditions, but fortunately all avoided contact with the barriers.

Behind the safety car, the downpour worsened, and the cars raised large walls of water. The field continued behind the safety car as officials assessed the situation, but the rain only intensified. A few more cars spun, again without damage, but the conditions were ultimately deemed too unsafe to proceed.

The starting procedure was suspended, and eventually the race start was abandoned, as the Formula 1 schedule could not be delayed.

The decision, entirely understandable due to safety concerns, resulted in the race being officially declared postponed.

In 2024, the opening race at Zandvoort was similarly rescheduled to Sunday morning due to adverse weather conditions. In Qatar, the second race at Lusail was cancelled due to barrier repairs following a support series incident, but was later rescheduled to Abu Dhabi in the next round, still ensuring the drivers received valuable track time.

As pole-sitter, Chloe Chambers will still receive the two bonus points, bringing her closer in the standings.

After the Miami round, Maya Weug leads the championship with 64 points, just one ahead of Doriane Pin on 63. Chloe Chambers sits third with 55 points.

The next round will mark the series’ first-ever visit to Montreal, Canada, on 14–15 June.
