The third race of the Formula Regional European Championship in Vallelunga has been called off due to bad weather.
The third and final race session of the rain-affected weekend in Vallelunga was initially started under the Safety Car but then red flagged after approximately 5 minutes of intense downpour.
Sophia Flörsch had started in 3rd position and was looking forward to a possible podium position. Flörsch's performances had steadily improved throughout the weekend and she had loooked comfortable with her Tatuus F3 setup in wet conditions.
Race direction and marshals desperately tried to resume the session but, after an hour wait, had to call off the action.
"Race 3 should have been ours" - commented Flörsch via her socials, "Started P3 but because it was raining so much and so heavy the race got suspended after one hour of waiting...sadly."
The outcome is certainly disappointing for the German girl, but it was nonetheless a sensible decision from the race direction, as there were simply not the safety conditions to race.
ACI Sport is now currently evaluating the opportunity to resume the race during another championship round later on in the season.
In her words:
“Could have been a podium but probably the race will happen at some point later this season.”
