F1 Academy has announced that its 2025 vice-champion, Maya Weug, will receive a funded opportunity to test a Ferrari 296 GT3 with AF Corse, as part of the series’ initiative to support its top-performing drivers.

The all-female championship has so far provided funded career opportunities for its champions and leading contenders, helping them progress across various motorsport pathways.

Weug, the first female driver to join the Ferrari Driver Academy after winning the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars initiative, has steadily risen through the ranks, with strong campaigns in Italian F4 and then stepped up to FRECA in 2023, where she scored points on six occasions and finished third in the rookie classification.

Maya then made her F1 Academy debut in 2024 with Prema Racing, representing Ferrari. She secured eight podiums and one victory, ultimately finishing third in the standings.

For 2025, Weug switched to MP Motorsport to continue her pursuit of the F1 Academy title. After opening the season with four consecutive podiums and a win in Jeddah, a difficult round in Canada cost her the championship lead. She nevertheless mounted an impressive late-season comeback, returning to winning form in Zandvoort and Singapore and scoring four consecutive podiums to rejoin the title fight. While she was unable to challenge Doriane Pin for the crown at the Las Vegas finale, Weug concluded the season as vice-champion.

The Dutch driver will now take the next step with a funded GT3 test, driving the AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 8 December.

As part of a collaboration with Ferrari and AF Corse, F1 Academy will therefore help its vice-champion explore valuable career pathways beyond single-seaters. In its inaugural 2023 season, champion Marta García was awarded a funded seat in FRECA, while runner-ups Léna Bühler received support to secure a FRECA seat as part of a top team’s expanded lineup. In 2024, champion Abbi Pulling earned a funded seat in the GB3 Championship. No opportunity has yet been announced for 2025 champion Doriane Pin.

“F1 Academy is a stepping stone, not a destination,” said Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy. "We continue to create opportunities that support our most talented drivers to progress. We are pleased to support Maya with this GT test as she explores her next steps for 2026.”
