Jade Edwards became the first female driver in British Touring Car Championship in 13 years when she made a one-off appearance at Silverstone in 2020, but then the popular racer turned her dream into reality one year later, when she sealed a contract with BTC Racing for her first full campaign in the premier touring car championship in the UK.

With support from BTC Racing's owner Steve Dudman, Edwards raced in the #99 Honda Civic Type R in the 10-event series across the UK, securing her first points at Snetterton with a season-best of 15th in Race 3. In doing so, Edwards became the first female point-scorer since 2007.

Jade was in the top-20 on six more occasions and marginally missed out on points again at Brands Hatch, where she finished 16th at the season finale, rounding out a positive debut season in one of the most competitive touring car championships.

Her performances gained her the sixth place in the Jack Sears Trophy, awarded to the Independent driver who achieves the greatest improvement from their respective grid positions over the entire season.

"I can’t wait for my second full season in the BTCC and I’ll be aiming to build on everything I’ve learnt" - Jade Edwards said.

“I’m not there to make up the numbers and I intend on proving that from the outset. I can’t thank Steve enough for his continued support and putting his faith in me once again.”

Edwards made her racing debut in the Ginetta Junior category and has competed in the GT4 class of British GT in 2014 and 2015, as well as in the Renault UK Clio Cup from 2017 and 2019.

“Jade fully deserves her place on the grid after a promising 2021 season” - added BTC Racing Team Owner, Steve Dudman. “We have every faith in her ability as a racing driver and we’ll assist with her continued development, which I’m sure will see her compete with the very best on a regular basis. Diversity shouldn’t be just a tick box.”

BTCC is moving towards a hybrid era and Jade Edwards will have the chance to test her new car at Donington Park today 29th March.

The 2022 season will consist again of 10 triple-header events, starting from 23-24 April at Donington. The series will visit all the major UK racing venues such as Brands Hatch, Thruxton, Oulton Park, Croft, Knockhill, Snetterton, Silverstone. The season finale is scheduled for 9th October at Brands Hatch.
