Jasmine Shaw twice in the top ten at Oulton Park

In the fifth round of the Caterham 270R Championship, Jasmine Shaw demonstrated solid and consistent pace across the three races at Oulton Park's Island circuit, securing a sixth place as best finish of the weekend despite some misfortunes in the final contest of a mixed round.

For the second round in a row, the Caterham 270R used a one-day schedule, meaning 20-year-old Jasmine Shaw had to maximize all of her limited track time on Saturday, and it all began well when she posted the seventh-best time in qualifying in the morning.

However, it wasn't smooth sailing at the start of race one, sliding down to ninth on the opening lap, but took advantage of chaos ahead of her to move up to sixth on the following lap. Throughout the rest of the race, Shaw was locked in a pack of cars and began squabbling for the lower positions of the top 10, eventually crossing the line ninth as the race was red-flagged following a crash at Turn 1. After the race though, Shaw was promoted up to sixth after post-race penalties were applied to other drivers.

Starting sixth in race two, Shaw once again had a tricky start and fell to as low as 11th in the early stages, as her race was made more difficult as the pack of cars ahead of her broke away, leaving her to duke it out for ninth with the cars around her. Following a hard-fought battle with Andrew Bailey in the closing stages, Shaw made the decisive move on him on the final lap to snatch tenth and cross the line as the first car in that pack.

Race three offered a glimpse of promise, as despite another challenging start, Shaw climbed from 11th to eighth in the opening stages and began pestering the cars around her to remain inside the top ten. While running 11th on lap nine though, Shaw spun out on the exit of Turn 3, dropping her down the order and putting an end to a promising and well-fought race, as she finished down in 22nd.

Next month, Shaw will be hoping to turn things around at the second-to-last round of the season, held at Knockhill, which will see a return of the two-day format.
