Karen Gaillard continued her encouraging progression in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia by securing another points-scoring finish at Vallelunga, producing two solid recovery drives that highlighted her growing confidence in one of Porsche's most competitive Carrera Cup championships.

The Ombra Racing driver twice gained significant ground through the field on a circuit renowned for being notoriously difficult to overtake, eventually claiming her second championship point of the season after another mature and mistake-free weekend.

The fourth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia season brought the championship to the demanding Vallelunga circuit on the outskirts of Rome, another new venue for the Swiss driver in her rookie campaign. Fast, technical and unforgiving, the Italian circuit rewards precision and punishes even the smallest mistakes, providing another valuable learning opportunity for the Iron Dames-supported racer.

Steadily building confidence during her rookie Porsche Carrera Cup Italia campaign, Karen Gaillard arrived at Vallelunga aiming to continue her upward trajectory. The Swiss driver had overcome a difficult debut weekend at Imola before making encouraging progress at Misano, where she recovered strongly to record her first top-20 finish and an eighth-place result in the Rookie class.

She took another significant step forward at Monza, combining consistent pace with racecraft to score her maiden championship points with a 14th-place overall finish while twice placing sixth among the rookies.

Despite tackling Vallelunga for the first time, Gaillard quickly picked up the pace around the technical 4.1-kilometre circuit. Continuing to improve throughout the opening practice session, she posted a best lap of 1:35.534, placing 18th overall.

Qualifying once again highlighted just how incredibly close the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy field had become; Gaillard immediately slotted inside the top 20 during the opening runs, steadily improving over the session. Her first representative laps came in the low 1:35s before she found further time to break into the 1:34s. Eventually setting a best lap of 1:34.815, Gaillard secured 22nd on the grid - only around 1.4 seconds off pole position.

Saturday's opening contest saw Gaillard line up 22nd on the grid. The Swiss immediately negotiated a clean opening lap despite several incidents unfolding around her. While Festante ran through the gravel at the exit of Cimini after a mistake, the Swiss driver avoided unnecessary risks and completed the opening lap cleanly, maintaining 22nd position.

Running competitive lap times in the 1:37.1 range, she gradually began closing the gap to Cesare Brusa ahead while dipping below the 1:37 barrier as her confidence continued to grow.

On lap nine, Schaap spun, while Brusa also ran off the circuit during an hectic stage of the race; Gaillard expertly capitalized on both incidents, climbing two positions into 20th place.

Now enjoying clear air ahead, she immediately began chasing Quintieri as she searched for another opportunity to move forward. Before she could launch an attack, however, another Safety Car was deployed after Quintieri went off in the gravel following contact with another car. The neutralisation promoted Gaillard another position to 19th.

Racing resumed with approximately seven minutes remaining, but only briefly. Just one lap after the restart, Andrea Galli stopped on circuit, immediately triggering another Safety Car intervention.

Gaillard held 19th as the field was neutralised once again.

One final restart followed with just over ninety seconds left on the clock; Gaillard immediately found herself in a tense three-wide battle through the opening corners and briefly slipped back to 20th position.

Moments later, however, another accident further down the field saw Mowle Lee crash heavily into the barriers, bringing out another Safety Car that effectively ended the race.

Although she crossed the line P20, post-race penalties promoted Gaillard to an excellent 17th place, rewarding another composed performance in which she once again avoided trouble while steadily gaining positions throughout the race.

Sunday's second race presented another challenge. Lining up only 23rd on the grid in the hot conditions around Vallelunga, Gaillard faced another difficult task on a circuit where overtaking opportunities can be limited. Once again, however, she immediately made progress.

Producing an excellent launch, Gaillard avoided several incidents that unfolded during the opening lap; Voisin ran through the gravel while Zendeli spun amid the opening-lap battles, allowing the Swiss driver to expertly navigate the chaos and climb six places into 17th position before completing the first lap.

The impressive opening lap placed her inside the battle for another points finish.

As several faster cars attempted to recover from their own setbacks behind, Gaillard remained calm and lapped consistently in the 1:36.9 range, defending intelligently.

By lap six she had gained yet another position to move into 16th. Her pace continued improving as the race progressed: dropping into the 1:36.8s, she steadily found additional tenths while opening a gap of around one second over Luciano Martinez and Lirim Zendeli behind.

At the same time, Karen gradually began reducing the deficit to Benjamin Berta ahead. During the closing five minutes, Zendeli began reducing the gap once more, but Gaillard never allowed the pressure to disrupt her rhythm and continued producing clean, consistent laps to maintain control of the position.

Crossing the finish line in 16th place, she completed another clean race, making up seven positions from the starting grid entirely through outright pace and mistake-free driving.

Following post-race penalties, Gaillard was promoted to 15th overall, sixth among the rookies, securing her second championship point and backing up the result she had achieved at Monza.

The result also brought her tally to three championship points and further confirmed the steady progress she has made throughout her rookie season.

Following another productive weekend, attention now turns to the fifth round of the championship at Misano on 18–20 September, after the summer break.
