MORE POINTS for Flörsch as F.regional grid expands

Updated: May 5, 2019

Another top ten result for Sophia Flörsch in the first Vallelunga race of Formula Regional European Championship

Two weeks after an eventful season opener in Le Castellet, France, Formula Regional European Championship is back in Vallelunga, Italy, for its second round with a significantly increased entry list.

Sophia Flörsch, who started the challenging French round with almost zero experience of the new Tatuus car, will have this weekend the opportunity to shara data with a teammate, former GP3 racer Joey Mawson.

After a wet qualifying, Flörsch started in eleventh place but made a good start and was able to move up to 10th.

On the second lap an aggressive move at Cimini corner gained Sophia the ninth position, as she overtook Italian newcomer Matteo Nannini.

From then on, the German ran steadily in P9 and her consistent lap times allowed the Van Amersfoort driver to catch the battling Caldwell and Fraga ahead but was ultimately unable to move further up the order.

The race marked the end of the Prema domination, with fellow countryman David Schumacher winning his first F3 race for US Racing.

Flörsch scored one more top ten result and showed more promising progresses for the rest of the weekend.

But of course Sophia wasn't the only lady in the field: the Swiss Sharon Scolari had a relatively uneventful race but rounded out the field.
