No luck for Linda Vekka in DS3 Cup at Jyllandsringen

Finnish driver Linda Vekka had a difficult round at Jyllandsringen in the Danish DS3 Cup, as she was out of both races due to a series of unfortunate events and despite an incredible effort from her team to get her back on track for race 2. Here's what happened.

The DS3 Cup Denmark was back on track after the summer break, with its first event of the second half of the season at the Grand Prix Danmark at Jyllandsringen. A fully-packed schedule on Saturday saw the series contesting both races over one day.

Among the growing field was Finnish driver Linda Vekka, the only female racer on the grid, who had a big progression from last year but at the same time is battling with a streak of bad luck.

In the qualifying session, Knut Eirik Knudsen posted the fastest time to snatch pole position ahead of Kevin Brandsborg and Silas Rytter, setting the front rows of the grid for the first race of the afternoon. Linda Vekka lined up in eighth place for race 1.

And it was a troubled start ending with an unfortunate retirement for Linda Vekka, as she made contact at the first lap and couldn't continue the race. Meanwhile, Brandsborg battled Knudsen for the lead - the latter having held first place for the most part of the race. Brandborg eventually got past to win heat 1, ahead of Knudsen and Felix Heiberg.

Linda's team did everything in their power in the short break between the races to fix her black and red DS3 in time for Race 2 - a mission made even more complex by the weekend's format. And they made it: Linda Vekka could start race 2 from P13.

Once again, Brandsborg claimed the victory at Jyllandsringen, ahead of Dennis Bannergaard and Nicolai S. Jonas. Linda Vekka moved up several positions during the race, but was forced to retire due a starting overheating engine and an overall unstable car.

The series will be back at Jyllandsringen one more time, from 8th to 9th October for the penultimate round of the 2022 DS3 Cup season.
