Podium finish for Emma Wigroth in Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia

Showing remarkable speed all weekend, Emma Wigroth secured her best result of the season with a second-place finish at Gelleråsen Arena, marking her third podium in the GT4 class and advancing to third in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia standings.

Emma Wigroth enjoyed her best weekend yet in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia, securing a second-place finish at Gelleråsen Arena, Sweden, marking her third podium of the season in the GT4 class.

Building on a pair of third-place finishes at Jyllandsringen last time out, Wigroth demonstrated impressive speed all weekend, consistently running among the class front runners and contending for the race win in both races following her best qualifying session of the season.

In her rookie season of sports car racing after a successful stint in single-seaters, Wigroth has shown remarkable progress over the last few rounds. From a fourth-place finish in the second round to her first-ever double podium at Jyllandsringen, the WestCoast Racing driver has steadily climbed the ranks in the GT4 field.

The fourth race meeting of the season took place on the same circuit where Wigroth made history in 2022, winning her first Formula Nordic race and becoming the first female winner in the series. Returning to the familiar ground of Gelleråsen Arena after the long summer break, Wigroth was ready to compete once again in the Porsche Cayman GT4.

Wigroth was third fastest in FP1 and topped the time sheets in FP2, finishing less than four-hundredths of a second ahead of Kristian Andero, proving she had the pace to battle at the front. She then delivered a remarkable qualifying performance, securing second place among the GT4 entries, just under a tenth off class pole position, marking her best qualifying effort to date.

In the first race, Wigroth lost a position on the opening lap, dropping to third in class behind Jernberg and Søholm but remained close to the Danish driver. After pressuring Søholm, Wigroth attempted an overtake on lap four but was sent off the track and fell down the order after a brief trip to the gravel.

Determined to recover, Wigroth set the fastest lap in GT4 with a time of 1:06.297, almost eight-tenths quicker than anyone else in class up to that point. She fought back to fifth and passed Ricknäs on lap 10. Wigroth caught Søholm once again and unfortunately as she went for a move the two made contact, resulting in car damage and a disappointing fifth place finish despite showing class-leading pace.

“I had my best qualifying session, putting it on P2", Emma reflected. "In race 1, I was hit when going for an overtake; the other driver moved under braking and turned right into me. I had to fight back from last, and when I was back in the fight for P3, the same driver did it again", she explained. "It ended with a P5 and a damaged car, but it could have been a fight for P1.”

However, the young Swede had the opportunity to bounce back later in the day.

In the second race, Wigroth started from second in GT4 and had a clean start, holding seventh overall but slipping behind Krister Andero, completing the first lap third in GT4. Showing strong pace once again, Wigroth passed Andero on lap six with a clean move, reclaiming second place. Although she couldn't quite catch Jernberg in the final laps for victory, she secured a well-earned second place in the GT4 class - thus claiming her personal best finish in the GT racing.

Emma expressed her satisfaction: “This weekend, we truly showed our speed and the steps forward I’ve taken."

"In race 2, we did a clean race and got P2! I think this is my best driving so far, and our speed was superb! I’m also super happy to receive driver of the day! Mega thanks to the team for this weekend!”

With two rounds remaining, Emma Wigroth now sits third in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia GT4 class standings with 113 points, 33 behind Krister Andero. The next round takes place at Rudskogen Motorsenter, Norway, during the Porsche Festival on September 7th.
