Achieving her best result of the Ginetta Junior Championship season at Silverstone, Holly Miall continued her progress in Britain’s premier junior racing series. The Fox Motorsport driver was consistently running in the midfield and secured her first top-15 of the campaign during race two. Using the slipstream to good effect, Miall also finished 19th and 18th respectively in races one and three to maintain her 100% finishing record in 2024.

Miall entered Silverstone off the back of nine consecutive points scoring finishes and improved performance following a consistent weekend at Snetterton. Also maintaining a 100% finishing record during the 2024 campaign, the Fox Motorsport driver has continued to gain experience in Britain’s premier junior racing championship.

After visiting the Grand Prix circuit earlier in the season, the young drivers now tackled the Silverstone National layout which Holly had experience of during the 2023 season. Twice finishing inside the top-15 during her rookie campaign, Miall was looking for a similar performance in a competitive field of drivers.

The event began with a series of test sessions on Thursday and Friday which allowed the young racers to fine tune their cars ahead of three races. It was a productive two days for the Fox Motorsport driver who completed 111 laps with her best time set during the third session on Thursday. Finishing inside the top-20 overall, Miall’s best lap time was a 1:13.273 and put her firmly in contention with the midfield runners.

Qualifying on Saturday morning was set to be a further challenge with a limited number of laps in which to set a time, while keeping within track limits. Miall set the 21st fastest time overall, however with the powerful slipstream effect on the Silverstone National layout, there would be good opportunities to move forward in the races.

Miall lined up from 21st on the grid for the opening race of the weekend and held her position at the end of lap one, before moving into 20th on lap two. Holly’s early race pace was excellent as she quickly caught the group of drivers ahead as she made full use of the powerful slipstream. By lap five she was able to make another move as she overtook Alfie Davies for 19th position. The race among this pack of five drivers was superb as positions were traded every corner and none were able to break clear as the race approached halfway.

On lap seven, Miall ran as high as 17th after passing both Harry Moss and Ntiyiso Mabunda but her enthusiasm had earned her a penalty for exceeding track limits. After being shuffled back to 19th on lap nine, Holly ran her personal best time and this was faster than the current pace of the race leaders as they battled for position. Further duels with Moss and James Ellis saw Miall hold down 18th position in the closing stages, before the Fox Motorsport driver took the checkered flag in 20th position, late promoted to 19th, once penalties had been applied.

For race two of the weekend, Miall started from 18th on the grid and although dropping one position on the opening lap, the young racers were running nose-to-tail. The Fox Motorsport driver was soon on the move and was able to overtake James Ellis on lap three, before Harry Moss spun a lap later and entered the pits. Now into 17th position, Holly was lapping both quickly and consistently and had settled comfortably into the midfield.

Setting personal best times on laps seven and eleven, Miall was closing in on the group of drivers ahead and was aided by R Racing driver Moss who was providing a slipstream despite being a lap down. The group of drivers which Holly was running in amongst were not battling too hard in the second half of the race and were therefore on pace with those fighting inside the top-10.

Late-race contact between Alfie Davies and Torrin Byrne lost both drivers time and therefore Miall was able to capitalise and move inside the top-15. Taking the checkered flag in 15th position, the Fox Motorsport driver secured her best result of the season to date with a mature drive at Silverstone.

After her strong drive in the second race of the weekend, Miall lined up 15th on the grid for the final twenty-minute contest. The Fox Motorsport driver made an excellent start and held down a position within the top-15 after the first lap was completed. Holly ran comfortably in the midfield during the early stages of the race and was looking to make up further ground as she ran side-by-side with Jude Peters as lap four began.

Miall briefly moved into 14th position with a great pass on Peters, however she received contact and spun at Brooklands as she got to the head of this group which dropped her to 21st position. A recovery drive was now on and by lap seven, she gained back one position after a spin for Harry Moss. Holly’s pace in clear air was extremely competitive and this saw her catch the duo of Jack Robinson and Ntiyiso Mabunda.

On lap 11, Mabunda spun which elevated Miall to 19th as she closed in further on Robinson. With just a couple of minutes remaining, Holly drew level with Robinson and completed the move on lap 16 to end race three in 18th position to round off a positive event at Silverstone.

Miall secured her season’s best result at Silverstone as she finished inside the top-15 for the first time this campaign. Her race pace was particularly impressive as she competed smartly within the midfield, making full use of the powerful slipstream effect.

Holly will be looking to continue this momentum when the Ginetta Junior Championship returns to Donington Park for the second time this year in support of the British GT Championship on the weekend of September 7th/8th.
