“I enjoyed it a lot and it was a fun weekend to end 2025” - In a valuable opportunity to keep herself sharp behind the wheel of a powerful single-seater, Sophia Floersch made an appearance at the BOSS GP round in Misano, leading every session and clocking the new Misano track record in the quick Dallara GP2/11.

After a season of limited race outings but continued testing in LMP2 machinery, Sophia Floersch made a surprise return to competitions at the 2025 BOSS GP season finale in Misano. The German driver joined the grid in a Dallara GP2/11 — one of the coolest and fastest cars outside of Formula 1, used as F1's second tier in F2 until 2017 — and enjoyed a flawless weekend, taking pole position, winning both races, and breaking the GP2 track record twice. The event represented a valuable opportunity for Floersch to keep herself sharp behind the wheel of a powerful single-seater as she prepares for her next steps in motorsport.

The BOSS GP (Big Open Single Seater) Championship has established itself as a spectacular event around racetracks in Europe, featuring some of the fastest formulas in the world. Over the years, the grid has included 1990s and early-2000s F1 machinery, as well as the blisteringly quick and reliable Dallara GP2 cars that have lately become the benchmark of the category. The series has also sometimes attracted high-profile drivers eyeing valuable seat time in powerful cars, and at Misano’s season finale, it was Sophia Floersch’s turn to draw attention.

Floersch joined the grid at the wheel of the #99 Dallara GP2/11 operated by International Motorsport, under the R&B Research and Wealth Management banner.

The opportunity came through Austrian entrepreneur and fellow BOSS GP racer Roland Rupprechter, who invited Floersch to drive his newly acquired Dallara car.

“Roland [Rupprechter], who is also racing in this championship, bought a new car and he asked me if I want to drive and I said, yes, of course, why not?", Floersch explained. "Obviously it's different compared to what I normally do, but in the end it's a great car. The car was working perfectly, I got new tyres and just some good laps and a really quick ones.”

The 24-year-old has built an impressive résumé across top-level categories, including FIA Formula 3, FIA World Endurance Championship, and European Le Mans Series. She became the first woman in the current FIA F3 era to score points and made history as the first woman to stand on an outright podium in ELMS, alongside three starts at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In 2025, Floersch had signed to race in Indy NXT in the United States but paused her campaign after the opening round. She later rejoined Algarve Pro Racing in LMP2 machinery, contributing as a development and test driver and once again demonstrating her speed in the Oreca prototype. With her next program under evaluation, the Misano outing offered the ideal chance to stay race-ready in a fast, high-downforce car and on a circuit she knows.

“It was my first time in the car. I mean, obviously, I did the Formula 2 test in Silverstone last year, but now first time with this one", Sophia said. "And it's nice with the V8, it's really cool.”

“To be honest, coming here, I didn't expect a lot because it was just something new, but I was really looking forward to drive the car. I love Misano, it's a really nice track and, obviously, driving a Formula 2 is always amazing.”

With no prior testing in the car, Floersch immediately showed her adaptability. In Friday’s opening practice session, she topped the timesheets with a 1:23.629 lap, nearly nine-tenths faster than her teammate and championship leader Simone Colombo. She improved further in FP2, setting a stunning 1:21.743 — more than a second quicker than the rest of the field — and completed 28 laps to prepare for qualifying.

Her pace continued in the following session. Floersch recorded two laps in the 1:21s, ultimately taking pole position with a 1:21.619, ahead of Colombo, Michael O’Connell in the WSR V8, and Ghiotto.

In a sunny Saturday at Misano, Floersch lined up on pole for the first race. At the rolling start, she made a clean getaway and immediately cleared the field into Turn 1, beginning to pull away as the pack sorted itself behind her. After the opening lap, she had already built a 1.6-second lead — and by the end of the second lap, the gap had doubled as Colombo pulled away from Ghiotto and O’Connell, who were battling for third.

Floersch set the race lap record on her first flying lap, lowering it to 1:22.9, and continued to extend her advantage by more than 1.5 seconds per lap. By lap six, she began navigating through lapped traffic with precision, maintaining great pace and stretching her lead to 20 seconds by lap 10.

Even in the closing stages, she dipped back under the 1:24 mark with clear air ahead. As Colombo lost some time in traffic, Floersch crossed the finish line over half a minute ahead, sealing a dominant victory and breaking the GP2 lap record at Misano.

Conditions remained sunny but windier on Sunday for the second race. Once again starting from pole, Floersch’s start was this time delayed after an incident further down the grid brought out the safety car during the formation lap. When the race finally got underway, she retained the lead unchallenged into Turn 1 and immediately established a gap.

Floersch settled into a consistent rhythm in the low 1:23s and on lap nine beat her own lap record from Saturday, clocking a 1:22.822 — setting a new benchmark for the Dallara GP2 at the track. Her pace was again unmatched, expanding her lead over Colombo once again. After another flawless drive, Floersch crossed the finish line with a 15-second margin to complete a perfect weekend, leading every single session and setting two new lap records.

Sophia praised the International Motorsport team’s preparation: “The car was actually well prepared by the team and everything was working the whole time. We had no technical issues, I was P1 every session, which was obviously cool. We also did some adjustments in the car to make it a little bit better maybe for Roland when he jumps in. But all in all, I just enjoyed it and also had some workout for my arms again.”

“With America being ended so early, we did some test days in the LMP2 with APR, which was really good, on different tracks to Le Mans and so on" Floersch added, reflecting on her 2025 season. "It was really nice to be back in the LMP2 car — it felt like coming home, also with the team. It was really positive, really quick against other drivers and I think that just showed that the speed is there; you just need to be in the right team with the right people around you and the right support.”

“Obviously we said that 2025 was not anymore racing, and to be honest it was really hard", she continued. "But I’m also at a stage now where I want to do stuff which I like. I want to do it properly and I don’t want to waste time or money for something which doesn’t bring me any success. I am experienced enough. If someone trusts in me, I perform."

"That’s a bit my thinking right now and we’ll see for next year. Obviously, my dream is always Formula 2, but if not, it’s going to be LMP2, which is also a sick car, in really competitive championships. We’ll see.”
