Tatiana Calderon joins Porsche Supercup at Mexican F1 GP

Colombian Tatiana Calderon gets Porsche Supercup outing in this weekend's Mexican F1 GP supporting schedule.

F2 racer Tatiana Calderon announced her participation at the Porsche Supercup season finale at this weekend's Mexican F1 Grand Prix, in an entry by team Project 1 under the banner of Huawei-Telcel-infinitum-Claro.

During a press conference in Bogotà last week, the Colombian driver said that her fans could expect news for the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix. "Maybe not as big as last year, but good news" - she joked.

In fact, Calderon will make her return to Hermanos Rodriguez circuit after she had the chance to taste F1 machinery there for the first time, when in a test session for Alfa Romeo Sauber she became the very first Latin-American woman to drive a Formula 1 car.

She later had a second opportunity, when she drove a 2013-spec Sauber at Paul Ricard earlier this August.

With her Formula 2 team Arden leaving the grid, as revealed last week, Calderon has yet to announce her 2020 racing program. "I'm trying to find a way to stay in Formula 2 for a second year, but I'm also exploring new opportunities", she said during last week's press conference.

Tatiana Calderon will thus compete in the Porsche Supercup, the fastest one-make series in the world and historically supporting Formula 1 races at most of the European venues.

After several seasons spent in elite formula championships such as Star Mazda, European F3 Open, FIA Formula 3, British F3, MRF Challenge, GP3 Series World Series Formula V8 and, among others, the FIA Formula 2, where she is the first and only woman so far on the grid, this weekend will represent Calderon's first high level GT experience.

“I am very happy to return to Mexico and I will always have the memory of my debut in a Formula 1 car at the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit with Alfa Romeo Racing. This time, I am very happy to return to this circuit to compete in the Porsche Supercup." - said Calderon.

"It will be a great challenge for me because it is something very different from the cars I have driven before, but I will certainly enjoy it very much. Racing on the schedule of the F1 Grand Prix in Mexico will feel like racing at home. ”

In Tatiana's words:

"It will be a great challenge for me because it is something very different from the cars I have driven before, but I will certainly enjoy it very much".
