Tereza Babickova, 17, was contesting her debut round in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at Red Bull Ring, when she had an accident in the opening laps of Race 1. Awful weather conditions after a rainstorm just before the start of the race made for treacherous visibility and, while behind the Safety Car, another car spun on the main straight.

Drivers tried to take evasive action, but Babickova couldn't avoid the slowing car of her G4 Racing's teammate Gillian Henrion.

After the accident Babickova was attended by the medical personnel and the red flag was deployed.

She would withdraw from the rest of the weekend and is now being revealed that she sustained spinal injuries in the accident.

Babickova has returned to Czech Republic, where she is receiving medical treatment.

Tereza, a rookie in the all-female W Series championship, was eyeing an extra weekend in the Tatuus F3 Regional car in order to gain crucial experience ahead of the final W Series rounds. Additionally, she was selected to be part of a one-day test at Magny Cours in a Dallara FIA F3 car, in the second edition of the female-oriented programme launched by Formula 3 and Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel.

The injury rules Babickova out for both the test and the next W Series round at Singapore, the series has confirmed. Replacements will be announced in due course - but most importantly we wish Tereza a prompt and full recovery.
