The second weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland had it all, with intense action and constant battles throughout both races at the Red Bull Ring. Amid the packed on-track fighting, Iron Dames-supported driver Alexandra Vateva showcased promising pace, fighting spirit and a lot of courage to ultimately secure her first championship point after a hard-fought race on Saturday.

The season had already started on a positive note at Imola, where Vateva demonstrated encouraging race pace despite difficult qualifying sessions amid extremely tight margins. While Theo Oeverhaus dominated the opening round with two victories, Vateva completed her opening weekend with finishes of P21 and P24, gaining valuable experience in a highly competitive field.

At the Red Bull Ring, sunny conditions set the stage for a late Friday qualifying session featuring a full grid of 30 Porsche Cup cars. While Alexander Tauscher and Flynt Schuring secured pole positions for the two races,  the Bulgarian driver in pink endured a challenging session. She qualified P25 for Saturday’s race and P27 for Sunday, setting up two demanding races for the Target Competition driver in an exceptionally close field.

Saturday’s race indeed delivered on its promise of action from the very start. Marcus Amand immediately challenged Tauscher for the lead and overtook him, while intense wheel-to-wheel battles unfolded throughout the pack. The fight for victory came down to Amand and Keegan Masters, with Masters moving into contention early in the race.

Despite two Safety Car interruptions, Amand held on to claim his first win of the season, finishing just 0.168 seconds ahead of Masters, with Tauscher completing the podium.

Alexandra Vateva displayed what was arguably her strongest race performance to date. Despite multiple setbacks that dropped her to the back of the field on three separate occasions, she fought her way back each time with impressive determination and racecraft. Her persistence paid off as she climbed to P15 at the finish, earning her first point of the season.

Sunday’s race was similarly action-packed, with Schuring converting pole position into victory ahead of Masters and Amand. The race featured close battles throughout the field before a late Safety Car, deployed with just over a minute remaining, prevented a final-lap showdown.

In Race 2, Vateva did exactly what she had to do, focusing on consistency and keeping it clean while maintaining solid pace and continuing to fight for positions. She ultimately crossed the line in P20, wrapping up a positive and productive weekend overall for the Bulgarian driver.

"After such a strong Thursday test with P9 and P12, I had a lot to show in qualifying. However, sadly things didn’t go our way and I had to start from the back", Vateva said. "After fighting my way up from the very back three times during Race 1, we finished P15. Race 2 was less chaotic - finished P20. Super positive Round 2", she summarized.

The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland field will now take a short break before returning to action at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps from 15–17 May, as part of the International GT Open weekend.
