Motorsport driver Caitlin Wood, the first Australian woman to win at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, partners with Mattel Inc’s Barbie® to inspire and empower fans by showcasing diverse career opportunities in motorsports. With women making up less than 10% of motorsport participants globally, the partnership is part of Barbie’s ongoing mission to show girls ‘You Can Be Anything’ and comes as the iconic brand celebrates its 65th anniversary.

Caitlin’s 2024 race car has been updated with Barbie-themed livery to make an impact on and off the track. The car will debut in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB Championship alongside the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton on 25-26th May, where Caitlin will be hitting the track in the instantly iconic Barbie pink and blue Porsche Cayman race car. Caitlin is breaking barriers as the only woman participating in the Championship, which further highlights the importance of shining a light on women in underrepresented sports.

The races will be broadcast as part of ITV’s race weekend broadcasts of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB Championship to an audience of millions. The collaboration extends beyond the racetrack, inviting young girls to participate in engaging activities during the race weekends and witness the Barbie-branded car in action.

“I am beyond excited and deeply honoured to embark on this incredible journey alongside Barbie as a sports ambassador. It’s especially meaningful to me because I personally approached Barbie with the idea, driven by my passion for motorsport and my belief in the power of representation.” said Caitlin Wood, Motorsport Driver. “To be able to combine my passion for motorsport with Barbie’s commitment to empowering young girls is a dream come true. I hope to pave the way for a future where every girl believes she can achieve anything. This partnership is not just about racing cars; it’s about driving change and fostering a world where every girl’s potential knows no bounds.”

Kelly Philp, Marketing Director Mattel UK says “As the original girl empowerment brand, Barbie is dedicated to supporting powerful women to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. We are delighted to support Caitlin’s mission to highlight women in motorsport and encourage young girls to see themselves in a variety of careers on and off the racetrack.”

As part of her mission to represent women in motorsport, Caitlin will be engaging with schools and universities by visiting two institutions per month to showcase the diverse career opportunities available. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of female talent to consider careers in traditionally male-dominant industries.

Caitlin’s project welcomes more partners to brand the other side of the race car, who share the vision of empowering girls and breaking gender barriers in motorsport and beyond.
