Colombian racer Tatiana Calderon extends her involvement in the Alfa Romeo F1 Team, as she takes on Test Driving and Ambassador duties.
Colombian racing driver Tatiana Calderon will have a very busy 2020: after being announced as the first female Super Formula driver in over 20 years, she will also join the all-female LMP2 squad Richard Mille Racing in the upcoming European Le Mans Series. In January, she was also part of the fully-female GEAR Racing entry at the Rolex Daytona 24 Hours.
Now, simultaneously with the launch of the new Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN C39 in Barcelona, Calderon was confirmed as the test driver and ambassador for the Swiss team.
It will be the fourth consecutive season of involvement in the team for the 26-year old, as Sauber (which operates the Alfa Romeo team) targets continuity in its line-up.
Tatiana had the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car in Mexico City for the first time in 2017. She then extended her track experience with further test sessions in Fiorano, Italy, and Le Castellet, France, at the wheel of a Sauber C32 in 2018 and 2019 . She has yet to taste a current F1 machinery.
She now extends her test driver status to an ambassador role, having impressed the team with her professional approach and skills.
“I’m extremely happy to continue as a Test Driver and become Team Ambassador for Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN in 2020." - commented Calderon.
"Continuity is so important in our sport, we have been together four years and it has been a great journey which has provided me with some great opportunities to grow and learn. I’m very thankful to the team for their continued belief and support to my career. We are all ready to give our best this year.” - she added.
Calderon is also an ambassador for Dare To Be Different, an organisation targeting an increased involvement for women in motorsport. The Colombian is in fact one of the highest ranked female racing drivers competing internationally and her current role in Formula 1 is set to keep inspiring young generations.
“I am delighted Tatiana will stay with our team for 2020, taking over the role of Team Ambassador as well." - said Frederic Vasseur, team principal of the Alfa Romao Orlen team and CEO of Sauber Group.
"Over the last three seasons, she has become a part of the family and her contribution to the team is increasingly valuable. She has been faultless every time she stepped in the cockpit and we are looking forward to working with her again.”
The Alfa Romao squad unveiled its new 2020 challenger this morning at Circuit de Catalunya, as F1 teams went on track for the first day of official testing.
Calderon will support the Swiss team and thus miss the final round of the Asian F3 championship in Thailand.
In Tatiana's words:
"I’m very thankful to the team for their continued belief and support to my career. We are all ready to give our best this year.”
