Iberian Supercars: Francisca Queiroz claims BMW M2 Cup class victory in Jarama
Francisca Queiroz continued her strong start to the 2026 Iberian Supercars season by adding another BMW M2 Cup victory at Jarama, extending the form with a superb second race charge.
Francisca Queiroz continued her strong start to the 2026 Iberian Supercars season by adding another BMW M2 Cup victory at Jarama, extending the form that had already seen her sweep both races at the season opener.
The Portuguese driver arrived at Jarama as the class leader in the new BMW M2 Cup category following her dominant Portimão weekend. With a larger field, qualifying at Jarama proved more challenging however, as she secured third in class in both sessions with laps of 1:47.714 and 1:47.736 respectively.
Race 1 began from third in class and 18th overall. Early in the race, Queiroz focused on working through faster Porsche Cup machinery while attempting to reconnect with the leading BMW M2 Cup contenders. Although she remained around ten seconds behind the leaders for much of the opening stint, she gradually chipped away at the deficit.
Staying out longer than several rivals during the pit window allowed her to move into second in class before eventually making her stop. After rejoining third, she launched a late charge, reducing the gap to Moura dramatically in the final laps. At the finish, Queiroz narrowly missed second place by just half a second, securing third in class after a strong recovery drive.
Race 2 proved even stronger. Once again starting third in class, Queiroz immediately began chasing the leading BMWs while simultaneously dealing with Porsche traffic as well as recovering GTX machinery. After the pit sequence, she found herself locked in a close fight with Diego Sirgado for the class lead.
The decisive move came on lap 14: after an earlier side-by-side battle where she had been forced to slot back in behind, Queiroz finally completed the pass on Sirgado and took over the BMW M2 Cup lead. Once in front, she immediately increased her pace, running almost a second per lap quicker and steadily pulling away from the opposition.
By the finish, Queiroz had transformed the race into a dominant victory, winning the BMW M2 Cup by 6.5 seconds after recovering two positions. The result further reinforced her championship position as the driver to beat in the category.
The championship now heads to the Vila Real street circuit in Portugal for the next round on 10-12 July.
