Riley Pegram showcased significant progress in pace and racecraft during the 2025 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season opener at Daytona, contending for the top-5 in the TCR class before contact ended a promising race prematurely.

Riley Pegram began her second season in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with a significant step up in performance at Daytona International Speedway.
Racing alongside father Larry Pegram in a Hyundai Elantra N TCR, the pair were set to contend for a top-5 result within the TCR class before contact with another car led to race-ending damage. After starting the race from 11th in class, Riley was confidently battling in the midfield and ran as high as fourth in an impressive return to the series for Pegram Racing.
Riley and her father Larry made a significant impression in their debut season in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2024. The father-daughter duo took significant strides forward in their Pegram Racing prepared Audi RS3 TCR. Despite competing in a partial campaign, they regularly challenged more experienced crews with the highlight of their season coming at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they contended for a podium finish within the TCR class.
Following the purchase of a Hyundai Elantra N TCR machine over the winter, Pegram Racing returned to the series and were looking to continue their upward trajectory. With more modern machinery now underneath them, Riley and Larry were targeting further progress in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
In preparation for their return, the Pegram Racing duo competed in a number of test sessions at the ROAR Before the 24 event to familiarise themselves with the new car, and a circuit which they did not compete at in 2024. From the opening session, both drivers were showing promise and this saw the Pegram Racing machine set the eighth fastest time in a competitive 15-car field. A best result of sixth across the test sessions brought further encouragement before the official race weekend got underway.
The first practice session of the main event got underway on Wednesday afternoon with the Pegram Racing duo completing 18 laps, while the fastest time set by Larry Pegram placed the team inside the top-10 of the TCR class. In the second session on Thursday, the team’s fastest lap placed them in 12th position, just over a second away from the top-6 in class.
Qualifying took place later on Thursday with Riley Pegram getting behind the wheel of the Hyundai Elantra N TCR. It was an excellent session for the young driver who consistently improved during the session, showing particularly strong pace in sector one. Without the aid of a slipstream, Pegram was able to set the 13th quickest lap within TCR with her fastest time coming on her final lap of the session.
Following post-qualifying penalties for the two Victor Gonzalez Racing cars, Riley Pegram lined up from 11th on the grid in the TCR class. A four-hour race lay ahead, however Riley was quickly on the move as she passed the Gou Racing machine on the opening lap and was now inside the top-10. Pegram had settled into the midfield in the early exchanges and was lapping on-pace with her quickest times from qualifying.
On lap five, the first full course yellow period of the race was required when Ted Giovanis made contact with William Tally and this resulted in Tally’s Honda Civic FL5 TCR requiring recovery.
The race resumed on lap nine with Pegram remaining on track and opting not to pit. Riley lost one place on the restart, however the race was quickly neutralised for a second time after contact between two GS class cars resulted in debris being left on the circuit. On this occasion, Riley brought her Hyundai Elantra N TCR to the attention of her crew and left the pits in 13th position, following a split strategy from her competitors.

With new tyres underneath her for the restart, Pegram made a series of confident overtakes and was soon into ninth position. On lap 20, Harry Gottsacker picked up a puncture and this elevated Pegram into eighth, her highest running position to date. At this point, she was racing in a competitive train of cars and battling with drivers with significantly more experience in both endurance racing and TCR class machinery.
As her impressive stint continued, some of her rivals ahead pitted for a scheduled stop and this elevated the Pegram Racing driver into fourth position within the TCR class. On lap 37, Riley pitted for a second time in the race and once again remained behind the wheel of the Hyundai Elantra N TCR.
As a result, this was now her longest competitive stint in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with Riley rejoining the track in seventh position.
Shortly after, the race entered a third full course yellow period as the Rebel Rock Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Andrew Davis lost a wheel. Riley remained on the circuit and moved up to fourth position as the race restarted with a little over two hours remaining in the contest.
Misfortune then struck as Pegram was trapped in the middle of a three-wide manoeuvre into turn one, with the Cupra Leon VZ TCR of Eduardo Gou on the inside. The contact from Gou damaged the suspension of Pegram’s machine with Alex Garcia also caught up in the incident. All three drivers were forced to retire from the race with terminal damage, a frustrating end to an excellent race from the Pegram Racing squad.
Despite not achieving the result the team deserved, Riley Pegram took significant steps forward in terms of pace and racecraft to begin the 2025 season. By competing solidly in the midfield, Pegram will take confidence from her performance and will be looking to bounce back in the next round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season.
Sebring International Raceway is the venue for race two with the event taking place on the weekend of March 13th/14th.
